Merlo America is expanding its dealer network in the Gulf Coast region through a new partnership with Piranha Rentals, a South Louisiana equipment rental company serving offshore, industrial, construction, and pipeline markets.

Under the agreement, Piranha Rentals will provide sales, rentals, parts, and service support for Merlo telehandlers across its four Louisiana locations in Houma, Venice, Fourchon, and Plaquemine. The move strengthens Merlo America’s footprint in a region where equipment uptime and responsive service are critical, particularly for offshore oil and gas, petrochemical, and industrial customers.

Founded in 2008, Piranha Rentals has built its business around 24/7 support and fast equipment response. CEO Jimmy Lirette said the company’s focus has always been dependable equipment and immediate customer support when downtime occurs. Piranha Rentals initially added Merlo telehandlers to its fleet as customers sought more versatile lifting and material handling equipment. The company now operates 36 Merlo telehandlers across multiple applications, including oilfield, pipeline, industrial, and construction work.

According to a recent press release, customers are increasingly using Merlo telehandlers with specialized attachments such as winches and grapple buckets to reduce the need for multiple machines on a job site. Compact models are also gaining traction with construction and homebuilding contractors that value maneuverability and transportability.

For Merlo America, the partnership represents more than geographic expansion. The company emphasized Piranha Rentals’ familiarity with the demands of South Louisiana industries and its service-driven approach to customer support.

The announcement also reflects broader trends in the equipment market, as contractors and industrial operators show an increasing interest in multi-purpose machines capable of handling a wider range of tasks with fewer assets. Evolving beyond the traditional lift-and-place application, telehandlers, particularly those with attachment options, are becoming an ideal means of improving efficiency and reducing equipment costs.

Merlo America said this partnership with Piranha Rentals will help improve local access to equipment, training, parts, and technical support throughout the region.
